How am I just now discovering that one of my favorite directors, Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood, Magnolia, Punch Drunk Love), is coming out with a new film this year? It’s been five years since his last film was released, I teach There Will Be Blood every semester in class and have seen it about 10 times now–you’d think I’d have picked up on this news sooner.

The Master looks like it promises more of the same from his films–intense drama, character driven plot, exploring relationship between power and religion. It will be interesting to see Joaquin Phoenix in this role and how he pulls it off.
