It seems like every 5 years or so there’s a renewed sense of interest in Iranian cinema in the art film world. Since A Seperation won the academy award earlier this year there’s been another wave of interest.
Since most of my knowledge about the history and context for Iranian cinema comes from Hamid Naficy–one of the leading scholars on Iranian cinema in the US–I thought I’d post a link to some of his writing.
Your Middle East recently posted a list of selections of Naficy’s favorite Iranian films. A few on this list overlap with mine as well, including Kandahar which I used to teach in my International Cinema class. Enjoy!
