“Brother Outsider” documentary about Bayard Rustin streams free on PBS August 28-29

BayardRustin-BrotherOutsiderBayard Rustin is finally starting to get some of the attention he is due. The Quaker activist was one of the main organizers of the March on Washington in 1963 but written out of the spotlight and history for being an openly gay man.

Now, with the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington this week and President Obama’s recent announcement to posthumously honor Rustin with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, it feels like Rustin’s story is finally getting some acknowledgement in a broader way.

There’s a great documentary about Rustin’s life called Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin which will be streaming online for free on PBS’s website on August 28-29th.
